DAISY & THE TROUBLE OF COLLECTION by KES GREY
6th March 2021

The Daisy books by Kes Gray are amazing and hilarious. In the book "Daisy and the Trouble with Life", Daisy talks about the trouble of being grounded. There is always some trouble in every book. On the first page the book "Daisy and the Trouble with Maggots", let’s say, the first trouble is about maggots because that’s what it’s (the book) about. As well as that, all the books in the series have posh pictures!

These are a few of the main characters in every book:

Daisy = Main
Daisy ‘s Mum = Main
Gabby (Daisy ‘s best friend) = Main
Jack Beechwhistle (the annoying boy in Daisy and Gabby ‘s class) = Main
Mrs Peters (their teacher) = Sometimes

THE ICKABOG by J.K. ROWLING

'Coooor – nucopia, give praises to the king,

Coooor – nucopia, lift up your voice and sing…’

Oops! Now let me tell you what the Ickabog is about. In a country called Cornucopia there lived many happy people. But at the northern most point of Cornucopia there was a place called the Marshlands which was not as happy as the rest of Cornucopia. The Marshlanders believed there was a monster called the Ickabog but not many people payed attention to them. One day when the King decides to go to Marshland and find out by himself that is when the story takes an interesting twist and everything changes. It goes about how a mountain of lies is built up to hide one secret of two of King’s closest aides. A well paced story and keeps you gripped till the end.

TEDDY ROBINSON by Joan G. Robinson

It is a surprising story about a friendly teddy bear that comes to life and be a great companion to the little girl called Deborah. The most interesting part is the little songs which the bear, Teddy Robinson sings throughout the book. It is a perfect book for a bedtime story.

This story is about an Indian girl called Nona when she was 8 years old. Her mother died when she was born. She was taken care of by an Ayah (an Indian nurse) till she was 8. She gets two Japanese dolls (Miss Happiness who is always happy and Miss Flower who is always worried) from Great Aunt Lucy Dickson. Story is how she thinks of making a Japanese doll house for these dolls.

Mr Twilfit: who helps Nona make the doll house

MAGIC FARAWAY TREE by Enid Blyton

The book is so magical that I could imagine myself in the magic land. I was fascinated by the adventures of Joe, Beth and Frannie. The story is when they stumble upon the magic faraway tree and end up discovering its mysteries. I want to be one of their friends so that I can also explore the magic faraway tree. The book is just unputdownable!

THE RAINBOW MAGIC TREASURY by Daisy Meadows

This book was about two girls, Rachel Walker and Kirsty Tate. They were on a holiday in Rainspell Island for one week and they had a big secret, they were friends with fairies. They had to find 7 rainbow fairies and they were each different colours of the rainbow: Ruby the red fairy, Amber the orange fairy, Saffron the yellow fairy, Fern the green fairy, Sky the blue fairy, Izzy the indigo fairy and Heather the violet fairy.

I like the book because I like the fairies and the magic which is included in the story. I also like the way Rachel and Kirsty found them using magic.

The book is about a boy named Tom Gates, Year 5 student, who is full of naughty (genius) ideas. He expresses himself with funny faces and drawings. He is very imaginative and does interesting things.

Then she had to go live with her grandmother in a place called Sawubona, a game reserve. Mysterious, heart warming, sad!

Tamarind lives in Bristol with her father and stepmother. The mystery begins when Tamarind visits her maternal grandmother in India and finds out all about her mother's life.

ESCAPE ROOM by Christopher Edge

I found this book totally different from any other book that I have read. An adventurous story about friends who lose each other on the way and face many problems, playing a logical, strategical and tough game called ‘The Escape’. I liked this book because the scenes were described with nice words and each character was different from another, making the story entertaining. My main takeaway from the book is that a game might be just a game, but always work hard till you reach the end. I would recommend this book to children like me who long for a life of adventure.

INTO THE SIDEWAYS WORLD by Ross Welford

This book opens up my imagination and has made me interested in science fiction. I initially used to feel science fiction is boring, but I love it now. It is an exciting and heart-warming story about two reckless twelve-year-olds, Manny and Willa, determined to prove they found a perfect world. One day, they heard about a mysterious animal and wanted to prove it real. It leads them into a cave and they are teleported into a world with peace, happiness and no pollution or war. Instead of cars, there were ci-cars and were floating and were powered by water! There were small channels on the sides of the roads where the water would get collected. They also found out that they did not travel forward nor backward in time, but sideways as he title suggests. The most exciting part is when they have to fly a flyke – another cool vehicle – which was illegal if it went too high. They faced terrible weather conditions and had to risk their lives flying next to lightning! They needed to catch the high tide on time to go back to their own world. The story gives an idea however much you are scared, you need to be determined to successfully complete your mission.

BOOK OF THE BRAIN AND HOW IT WORKS by Dr. Betina Ip

This book is a cool and appealing book about the brain. I had a BRAIN BOOST reading about my own brain! The illustrations are creative and colourful. The illustrations helped me get a clearer idea of how different parts of the brain work. Now that I’ve read the book, I realize the importance of some basic day-to-day activities such as sleeping, exercising and socializing. I would recommend this book to children like me who are very interested and fascinated by science. There are many facts about the brain and what it does, but I have so many more questions!

LEONARDO DA VINCI'S LIFE OF INVENTION by Jake Williams

I found this book very factful and I liked the illustrations the most as they are very easy-to-understand. It was fascinating to find out that few of Leonardo’s inventions still remain largely unchanged to this day. I would recommend this book to children as Da Vinci’s inventions, theories and paintings can spark new and more creative ideas.

THE NIGHTSILVER PROMISE by Annaliese Averi

A classic fantasy story about a young girl – Paisley - who learns about her destiny, which was very upsetting. Her mother, presumed dead while performing an experiment, was in the dark dragon’s hiding. Paisley must help her mother escape before she faces the fate of her destiny. I liked the book as it has a wide collection of new and magical words, making it hair-raising to read. I would recommend this book to children like Paisley and her brother who must gather all their bravery and save the most loved people in the world.

THE SCIENTIFIC LIFE OF AZALEAH LANE by Nikki Shannon Smith

I felt the idea of the story was very ordinary but the author has done a good job by capturing the story with simple words and scenes. The book is about a girl - Azaleah Lane - who becomes a STEM Lab monitor. When the lab’s hamster goes missing, she feels everyone will think she is a bad monitor. But, using her cool detective skills, can she find the hamster? The illustrations were my favourite part of the book. I would recommend this book as the text is simple and the illustrations are well done and colourful.

9 CHOCOLATEY BITES by Ananya V. Ganesh

An engrossing short story collection, perfect for you to read on a numb-dumbingly boring journey. The stories have a beautiful collage of feelings and becomes very exciting to read. The Indian traditions mentioned within the stories are very nice to read because it feels like my country is the centre of attention. The way the details are explained so elegantly, is what stands out in her writing.

BOY TALES OF CHILDHOOD by Roald Dahl

The book is about Roald Dahl’s life story (childhood, age 6-20). It’s amazing how he’s put it so simply, while it actually feels real! It describes the most funny and scary days of his life!

I liked the book because it is so funny and so frightening at the same time. The happenings are so utterly engrossing, I felt like a part of every scene.

WORLD'S WORST CHILDREN 3 by David Walliams

This book is about the world’s WORST children (you might be able to guess by the title). It tells amazing tales about horriblest of horrible children and that they get what they do to others, a taste of their own medicine.

My favourite character is … I’m sure I don’t have one (World’s WORST Children, remember?) but I can tell you my least favourite, ALL OF THEM! Obviously! I don’t like them as they are very mean.
